LG no longer commited to upgrading the G2 to Lollipop

So after waiting for months to get the Android 5 Lollipop 5 upgrade that LG had promised for my G2, I contacted their customer support and got this response:

I can only apologise, due to the hardware constraints in the G2 it will not be upgraded to Lollipop. When this was released we were under the impression that it would be introduced to the G2 however as this has been out for months it is not going to be upgraded. Unfortunately this will not change.

LG had previously said they would provide an update, and why not, the G2 is no slouch, with a Snapdragon 800 and 2GB RAM. It was the top of the range phone when it was released in September 2013. Yet 18 months later and its now at its end.

I certainly won't be buying another LG, I hope that other manufacturers at least stick to what they say.

Do you know of any other high-end phones which won't get the update?

"Hardware constraints" is absolute BS. The G2 is just a glorified Nexus 5. Heck even the Moto E has no problem running Lollipop. LG you're not fooling anyone.

Exactly my thoughts. Really not a happy customer!

The G2 is getting Lollipop, at least the T-Mobile version is. It's still in testing.

Perhaps thats only for the US, it was LG UK that replied to my question, so maybe its Europe that won't get it.

To be honest this is one thing which makes me feel that Apple still has the best platform for longevity with regards to software upgrades as the OEMs of Android seems to be able to do whatever they like.

Oh we will promise this but we won't do it and we'll blame the hardware.

Basicly this is the reason:

We (LG) Can not be arsed to support our 18 month old phone so go buy a new one.

Heyyo,

"Hardware constraints" is absolute BS. The G2 is just a glorified Nexus 5. Heck even the Moto E has no problem running Lollipop. LG you're not fooling anyone.

Yeh, lol my HTC One M7 with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 on 5.0.2 without issue and there's devices on the low-end Snapdragon 400 series that run lollipop... that and I'm sure Android has been ported to even older devices like I've seen Samsung Galaxy S3's on Lollipop from Cyanogen ROMs I think. :P

To be honest this is one thing which makes me feel that Apple still has the best platform for longevity with regards to software upgrades as the OEMs of Android seems to be able to do whatever they like.

Yeah... at the risk of your WiFi chip frying during the update like my iPhone 4S did going from 6.1.3 to 7.0.2... so I gave the middle finger to apple and got an HTC One M7 and WOW am I glad I did. I've enjoyed the One M7 a lot more than even my ol' iPhone 3Gs and that thing was awesome at the time. iOS 7.0.2 ruined my iPhone 4S not just for the WiFi chip but it ran TERRIBLE compared to iOS 6.1.3... NEVER am I getting an iPhone. They screwed me over quite royally.

Why so? I prefer it to Kitkat.

Same. There is a silly memory leak on Lollipop... but same crap iPhones had when going to iOS 7.0... so many complained about performance issues a

Yeah, that's some terrible customer support... then again, maybe they were just going off a spreadsheet of answers not promising anything and then maybe surprising people if Lollipop does come to the LG G2 to them.

That's one thing I love about HTC... quite open communication. You can see how far along the update process it is, development, testing, certification and release. :)

The best for Android updates outside of the Nexus lineup is still Motorola though.

Well you just had a bit of bad luck as I owned iPhones since the 1st Generation iPhone (Had 4GB of Memory  ) Overall I had the 1st Gen, 3G, 4,4S and 5 until I switched to Android because I got bored

My iPhone 3G Is still going strong after years of abuse off my father. Anyway my point is that none of my iPhones had an issue and they were kept up to date.
