New PC build Download speed problems

Thats just the way it works from what I understand, My PC does the same on Steam and downloading from Chrome. I have 12mb Download and steam it NEVER goes about a 1.7 download speed and usually drops (sometimes for up to an hour) all the way down to like 10 bytes. This is extremely frustrating and normally takes a whole day to download 40GB games, but as long as I can play online, I dont mind because I can always wait to download games. They'll get there at some point haha :P

 

BTW I use a wifi card and my router is upstairs

I recently build a new PC And am having some trouble with the internet connection that I wasn't before. I live in a relatively remote town in the UK so about 15Mb/s download is normal for me. I've been trying to download some mods through the ArmA 3 launcher and the download speed is really sketchy :/ with some of the smaller downloads that were about 1Gb I managed to get about 1.6Mb/s download which is not ideal but I'm still happy with but now I'm trying to do a 2.2Gb downlaod and the speed is very unstable going anywhere from about 50Kb/s to 500Kb/s which is just too slow. I'm using a wired connection and I just got a 13.5Mb/s download reading from www.speedtest.net while the download was running so I don't know what is going on can someone please help it is a nightmare trying to get anything done with such slow speeds.

Could be that Arma download servers were under heavy load when you tried downloading the mod.

 

If you can reach speeds anywhere from 1MB/s while downloading this file then you are fine.

It's giving me 1,500Kb/s :/ Is that 1.5Kb/s or 1.5Mb/s?

That's 1.5Mbps

What browser are you using? Most browsers show the download speed in either Kilo Bytes or Mega Bytes. In that case it's 1.5MB/s (Mega Byte)
