Sony vegas GPU acceleration - Which GPU ?

currently I own a r9 290x with a 4930k.

 

What graphic cards would you use ? 

 

Vegas uses open CL i believe , and the 290x is great at that , but the 980 seems tempting , what do you all think ?

actually looking for a better alternative, How is nvidia doing on the open CL front ? is it far behind AMD ? the results of benchmark are very finnicky where amd beats out nvidia 50% of the time

Ok, AFAIK AMD is destroying nvidia in open CL

GPU acceleration in sony vegas with gaming cards is kind of pointless.

Vegas doesn't support CUDA if I can recall. Adobe's software does.

Actually it does ! I might make a video and post it here, with basic effects on my 4930k only i get 2-3fps on 4k footage, with the 290x activated, it jumps to 15-20fps !

ohh and i'm talking playback for GPU acceleration which is most important for editing IMO vs rendering which a GPU is usually not the best option since it can bring inverted frame orders or stuttering in the video !
