3-way-sly for Physx Help

Go to solution Solved by Aniallation,

I'm building my first pc, not getting new console for the first time. I'm planing on going with dual gtx 970, for now just one. Want the option to play with Nividia's Physx on, but people complain about the drop in fps.

My question: Can I dedicate a cheaper gpu to Physx, or do the SLI laws force me to get a third 970? Need to know before buying motherboard. Cant wait to game in PC

PhysX is very bleehh nowadays. You won't benefit from having a dedicated cheaper GPU for PhysX for it when your CPU and native GPU can do it perfectly fine on it's own. Just run two 970s and leave the PhysX to do it's own thing.

If you second gpu isn't being taxed hard. The Nvidia drivers will automatically make it dedicated to physx

what games do you play?

i have physx always turned on if the game supports it and I can play high/ultra setting @1920x1200 ~60 fps with my gtx 770

you´re 970 should kick those games asses

just try your games with physx enabled and I garantee you won´t notice any difference in fps

With two 970s you dont need a dedicated physX GPU.

I'm an all around gamer. From shooters to RPGs to super mario. Am an addict to good graphics, that's why I'm making the switch to pc.

Just to future proof my pc, Can I SLI a dedicate a gpu to Physx that's not a 970? Like a $60 gpu. Want to know so I can choose 3sli ot 2sli motherboard.

I think you're getting a bit ahead of yourself here... :P

PhysX is great, but it's rarely implemented, and when it is, it's not often implemented well, or in a way that's significant to the game.

There is no such thing as "future proof". Technology changes at such a rapid rate, it's likely that a 3-way SLI will be obsolete within six months.

VERY few games are actually going to benefit from a 3-way sli, too, and you're going to see diminishing returns on your investment for each card that you install, both directly in the up-front cost, and the costs of power consumption.

You will need a card of the same architecture.

Why bother? It's been discussed that a cheap GPU dedicated to PhysX may actually slow things down. A pair of GTX970's would cream every game in sight at 1080P and 1440P, leave the cards in SLi mode with 2nd card doing both rendering and PhysX. I don't know why you're making such a big deal out of PhysX, GPU accelerated PhysX titles are few, very few, and far between.

I suggest an Asus Z97 VII Ragner or Hero Mainboard. They have (or had, not sure) an offer to give you 50 bucks back wehn buying an Intel CPU combo.

Intel Core i7 7700k | Asus GTX 1080 ti Strix | Asus ROG Strix Z270F | 32GB G.Skill TridentZ 3200 | 650W EVGA Supernova Plat | Corsair Crystal 460X | 4TB WD-B
