Noctua Industrial Fans on NH-D15?

Keen_Interest

Is it possible to mount the Noctua 140mm industrial fans onto the NH-D15 cooler?

Hope someone can help, thanks. :)

i do not think so because dosnt it use the 150mm fans?

Do not take life too seriously. You will never get out of it alive.

Yes. Won't give any better performance than the stock NF-A15's it comes with.

Yes, it comes with 150mm fans so 140mm fans will also fit since they're smaller.

Yeah, I didn't think it would offer better performance, but I already own the industrial fans, and they're black. :P

Would using the NH-D15 give better performance over the NH-D14, in this usage senario? My physics knowledge says it would, but in the real world, I'm not sure how much effect it would actually have.

Haha, I had a feeling it had something to do with aesthetics.

The NH-D15's main advantage over the NH-D14 is it's better RAM compatibility. Noctua also did a better job at spreading out the heat pipes over the entirety of the heat sink giving the NH-D15 a bit (2-5 degrees lower) better temps.

If you want the best out there, go with the NH-D15 but the NH-D14 is by no means a slouch.

Do you happen to know if the NH-D15 would clear Corsair Vengeance Pro RAM on either side, on a LGA2011 board?

If Vengeance Pro RAM is taller than 64mm it won't fit in the RAM slots closest to the heat sink. With the RAM slots that are further out you can raise the outside fan but total CPU cooler height needs to be taking in to account based on how deep your PC case is.

They fit because A15's and A14's both use 140mm mounting holes and not because they're smaller.

The NH-D15 performs better than the D14. The industrial A14's outperform the A15's due to the higher fan speed. You would negate the performance difference if you lowered the fan speeds though.

Yes but you might have to move the front fan to the back or raise the front fan--raising the overall cooler height.

This is NOT correct, see: http://www.noctua.at/main.php?show=140mm_frame_types&setlng=en

NF-A15 uses 120mm mounting holes (105mm spacing) whereas NF-A14 uses 140mm mounting holes (124.5mm spacing).

NH-D15 supports only 120/140/150mm fans with 120mm mounting holes (105mm spacing): http://www.noctua.at/main.php?show=productview&products_id=68&lng=en&set=1

As clearly stated in this FAQ, NH-D15 does NOT support square 140mm fans such as NF-A14 iPPC: http://www.noctua.at/main.php?show=faqs&step=2&products_id=68&lng=en#16

My mistake--thanks for the correction.

Huh, doesn't the  NH-D15 with NF-A14 IPPC's still work with the included fan clips?

Have a look at the fan clips, they are severely bent to go into the 140mm holes. The parts of the clips that should go parallel with the heatsink fins in order to slide inbetween them don't go parallel, so they will not fit between the fins. On the left hand photo, you can see how the clips stick off sideways - normally (with fans using 120mm homes), they are flush with the cooler. This works for a photo and some benching, but the fans will be a pain to install/remove and there's no guarantee that they won't come off at some point.

Okay, so this doesn't looks like a great way to go about doing this. So are there any good air coolers, that can sensibly mount these fans? Sorry, I know very little about air cooling.

Why use IPPC fans in the first place?

Don't expect to use them on anything other than a radiator or as a case fan unless you're fine with bending some wires to attach the fans. Most heatsinks cap at fans with 120mm mounting holes.

  • 7 months later...

The 120mm iPPC-2000 fan still has a much higher static pressure than the stock D15 fans, so those could be used instead of the 140mm version.

I know this is serious thread necromancy, but that faq now says square 140mm mounts are available via noctua customer service. Haven't heard back just yet so ymmv.

Google led me here and I figured this might help others in the future
