Msi Z97 Gaming 5  for $85,- new, thats a deal you cannot skip on

Quick question, is the MSI Z97 Gaming 5 comparable to the Asrock Fatality z97x?

As of right now I'm able to get the MSI board for 20 dollars less and I want to know is there any advantage to the Asrock board? I know the asrock board has like 2 awards but is there any significant difference? Thanks!

If the MSI has all the ports/connectors you need, and you like the looks of it, then go with the MSI board.

Both are bad (in terms of build quality and RMA support).

I suggest the gigabyte g1 sniper z97.

Which motherboards are you currently considering? Perhaps we (the LTT community) could be of help.

Careful you'll incite the fan boys into full blow riot like I did when I spoke similar words :)

Any reason why for gigabyte, newegg has a combo with the i5 4690k I'm able to get $65 off. So in theory I can get a $85 dollar motherboard thus the reason for the initial answer. Asrock has a deal where I can't get it for $105.

More RMA, support and return problems with asrock and MSI (me included).

Gigabyte has a lower return rate and IMO better support.

The Msi gaming 5 is basicly totaly fine.

For most users / gamers

In terms of Vreg designs those 3 boards are pretty similar. all 4 powerphase with doublers and analog vrms.

All of them use killer nik lan, so yeah.

They are all pretty similar in my opinnion.

Offcourse for extreme overclockers there are better boards to go for. like boards with 6 or true 8 phase boards.

Last question then, thanks, so would is this board fit well with my build? http://pcpartpicker.com/p/6yXcyc Powersupply and RAM is already bought and the reason for 850w is future SLI and I got a good deal, like 40 off.

looks good to me.

850W might be a bit overkill. i would grab a cheaper psu for that to be honnest.

For the rest the build looks good.

If you wanne go into extremer overclocking, only then i would recommend a better mobo.

But for just gaming and light overclocking, it will be totaly fine this setup.

Sweet, yeah 850w was overkill lol, but what kind of OC do you think I could get? (Sorry last question xD)

I run the ASRock A85X Extreme6 for a year now and never had any issues. It also held the overclock world record. There isn't any bad qualities about ASRock boards from personal experience. The ASRock Z97 Fatality boards seem to be some of the best rated boards as of right now. In terms of comparison, they both offer generally the same stuff. It boils down to price and ascetics really.

Thats hard to say, that also depends on the silicon lottery of cpu´s aswell.

But in terms of the board 4.2 to 4.4Ghz should be no problem.

maybe even higher if you have a good chip.

But i would recommend to target it arround 4.3Ghz, just to no stress the vrm´s too much.

Will be more stable and reliable.

Also the diffrence between 4.2 and 4.6 wont be that noticable in real world.
