Will having a nic improve Wired speeds over onboard on X99?

long answer:

Depends on what your network setup is and what sort of NIC you're looking at. If you're pushing for something more "exotic" like a Quad Gigabit NIC or a 10G NIC and you have the need and infrastucture required for that? Then sure. Also depending on what sort of chipset you have you might get a more reliable one, like one from Intel, if you upgrade to a dedicated card.
