Best $200 Pair of Headphones for Gaming/Music

Redhawkcrazed
Go to solution Solved by ShearMe,

Do you think that the HD558 are worth the extra $50?

I don't think so. They're pretty close.

My current headset is a g930, and I'm looking to upgrade to a nicer pair. I do not require a mic on the headset. My budget is $200 and sadly, the headset must be able to be bought at Best Buy(online is okay.) I play alot of games and listen to a ton of orchestral music. Here is a sample of the type of music that I listen to:

Sorry for quality of the post, never really posted anything yet. Thanks for any ideas.

Gift card situation, but the giftcard has $135 on it, so cheaper is better, oh and in regards to the ATH-AD900X is open back a big problem, I talk on skype alot, will that cause problems.

Is this a giftcard situation where it's best to spend the full $200, or is cheaper better?

I'd grab the ATH-AD900X while it's on sale: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/audio-technica-ath-ad900x-audiophile-open-air-headphones/1306583938.p?id=mp1306583938&skuId=1306583938&st=categoryid$pcmcat331200050001&cp=3&lp=5#tab=buyingOptions

Or would I be better off buying say the DT 860's?

Nothing wrong with open back for talking on skype - your mic shouldn't pic up the noise coming out of your headphones.

I'd hesitate to recommend the 860 because I've read of some comfort issues. The HD518 is $130 however: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/sennheiser-over-the-ear-headphones-titan/1535169.p?id=1218267759430&skuId=1535169&st=hd%20518&cp=1&lp=2

You should look into the Sennheiser HD598. Great headphone for the price, amazing for music and great for gaming if you get a mod mic.

Just realized that the headphones have to be sold by best buy and not by the marketplace, so it's either between the HD558 or the ATH-PRO700MK2
