I haven't had it for too long so I decided to throw it (not literally) into my current system (i3 2100, 2x Radeon 7770's) to see how cable management and overall ease of building was with it. Here are my results:

Pros:

  • The all black ribbon style cables look great. can't complain.
  • The fully modular design is great, the 24 pin and the 8 pin CPU power cables are located on the inner side of the power supply when the fan is facing DOWN. (with fan facing up, they are on the outside.) This helps to get that 8 pin all the way up to the connector while routing behind the motherboard.
  • "zero RPM fan mode" is an awesome feature. I know that my system isn't anything special, but I haven't even been able to see the fan spin up! Not once!
  • Corsair Link is a nice feature as well, lets me monitor fan RPM and power draw.
  • Overall build quality is amazing. Power switch is very satisfying and the metal construction can't show it's sturdiness through pictures.

Cons:

  • While in theory the flat cables would make cable management easier, they actually complicate things. They are hard to bend and don't always lay flat.
  • With a fan installed in the top rear location on my case, the connector WOULD NOT fit under the fan although my last power supply would.
  • Cables are not braided. for a near $200 PSU, I'd like to see that. I will be purchasing the red sleeved cable kit from corsair in the near future.
  • The Corsair Link USB section of the cable has a large block VERY close to the USB connector itself, meaning this block is difficult to hide and is an eyesore.
  • The logo itself is yellow. Although the power supply is hardly visible in most cases,I'm still waiting for a company to release interchangeable colors for the sides of the power supply, like Corsair's fans have. that would be great!

Overall, I really like what Corsair has done here. This power supply combines good looks, silence and eficency within a very realistic price bracket. I do, however, feel like some of these issues could have easily been avoided with some more forethought from Corsair. I don't know about you, but I'd be down for the RM1000i! :P

Overall a very nice review.

As an owner of a RM750, all of the cons you listed applies to me but I did find a work around with the yellow logo. Its called carbon fiber vinyl wrap.

Yup, thinking about doing that. I'll have to wait and see how the build looks with the yellow before I go and get everything I need. Appreciate the feedback by the way!
