r9 280 or r9 270x

Go to solution Solved by FuzzyYellow,

I want to run at 1080p with. I mostly play racing games and also a bit of FPS.

i wouldn't get a 750ti. it is super expensive for the performance you get. you can get much better performance out of an r7 265, which is the same price or cheaper. ;)

for 1080p 60fps at ultra i would reccomend the 280, but if you are ok with sacrificeing a little detail, or run at 40-50fps then get the 270x :)

I am new to this pc building thing I was just wondering if I should use a 280 or 270x or any other graphic card in that price range. Also I am not a heavy gamer and the games I will play will mostly be racing games and maybe a flight sim

well, what res are you planning to play at? the 280 is obviously more powerful, so i would say the 280.

Also what games? Microsoft FSX runs much better on Nvidia GPUs, so it may well be worthwhile going for something like a GTX 760

i5 4670k - Z87X-UD3H - EVGA GTX 670 Sig 2 - Samsung 840 Evo 250GB - 8GB Avexir Core White 1600Mhz - Corsair 750D w/ RGB LED Mod & Remote Control - 2x SP120 - 3x Enermax Cluster - 2TB Seagate SSHD - Arctic Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2 - SuperFlower Leadex Gold 750W

Yeah its a hard choice. I personally have been using a 270x and it has performed amazingly well.

I suggest getting the cheapest card you can get among them. Depending on where you are. Prices may vary.

Reason for this is because there will be more price drops coming and when it hits you can go for a 970/960 or maybe a new 300 series AMD card.

But honestly I can pretty much say the 270x I own would be able to handle even future games at medium or high settings. It is very good card.

I'd even recommend a 750ti. That too is a great card for the price

r9 280 is a really good card for the price. It puts you right on the borderline of high end cards but is priced like a lower end card. Its probably the cheapest card you can get that will enable you to play some modern games like bf4 on ultra at 1080p at fairly decent frame rates(AA disabled).

I would say, get the one for the cheapest price.

They are both amazing budget cards.

Otherwise, I'd shell out the full $300-$350 for a gtx 970, it's worth it

Noooo, if you want to buy the R9 270X don't, buy the R9 270 it's the same GPU just underclocked, you will save some money, seems that the R9 270 will be fine for you it's a great 1080p card.

what?

the 270x is about the same price as a 270 right now. i see no reason to get a 270 over a 270x except power consumption. ;)

and either way, you can get a 280 for about the same price as either of the above. Link
