PC won't turn on.

jem.graham

Hey guys.

So today I got my new monitor, excited to play some games on it so I booted up payday 2 with that fresh update and played for a bit.

So about 30 minutes in, I start to smell a burning smell, I turned down the settings in an attempt to relieve some stress on the GPU, about 5 minutes later the PC shut off.

I left it for a couple of minutes and got my desk fan, took off the side panel and turned on the fan. I then tried to turn on my PC, nothing, no fans, LEDs or any sign of life. However when I pull out the power cord and plug it back in and push the power button the blue power indicator comes on for less than a second then fades out.

Could this be the PSU? Motherboard/CPU?

Any input is appreciated.

Thanks,

Jem

Are you sure all fans were working, and no parts got burned / overheated?

All 2 fans were spinning and I can see no burned bits:/

  • what is your environment like?

is your environment or place your putting your destop at any risk of overheating? because of the fact the temps of the cpu  affect greatly depending on the environment your in

or did it happen so randomly?

how long have you had your pc?

did the monitor have you ramp up graphical settings? *example going from 1080 to 1440 or 2-4 k?

Environment was fairly warm, I hadn't had my windows open in a while. My pc is on the floor so that could affect temps. It was expected it might get hot, but not shut off altogether.

I had my PC on from about 2pm and it shut off at around 10.20pm.

The monitor did look like it put up the graphics settings in pd2 but they didn't seem too high for my GPU.
