HTPC build help!

Hi guys.

So I'm going to be building a budget HTPC for my family very soon, and as usual, I want to see what you guys can also come up with.

Must Haves/Preferences:

- Very low budget ($200-$300) [edited]

- Mini ITX [preferably an HTPC case (flat, DVD player shape)]

- Intel CPU, onboard graphics are fine

- Do not include OS in price

- Small SSD for boot

- 1TB HDD at least

Again, SUPER low budget, and find a case as small as you can!

Thanks guys and let's see what you come up with!

- Small SSD for boot

Small SSD's can be experience.  How many Gb's do you want?

Because he had a hard drive.

If it's not worth the price to go smaller, 120+/- is fine. But 64 if its worth it.

For budget you're best off with an A4 6300 or something like that. It's powerful enough and very cheap. If you can afford it though, something like the i3 4130T's low TDP might be able to afford you some passive cooling for silence.

  • 2 weeks later...

agree with using an AMD Apu for your build way cheaper then intel

just rebuilt a HTPC myself using an AMD A4 5300 Dual Core with a ASRock FM2A88M Extreme4+ motherboard cost me $39 Au for the cpu and $89 for the mobo

and only used that motherboard for its 8 sata ports it has , I could have gone cheaper if i wanted too , but its going to have 2tb x 6 hard drives for storage in it plus the system drive and a blueray  optical drive
