New SSD? Clone vs Clean install.

House

hey forum,

I could no find this discussion here so .
What is your opinions en recommendations when one installs a new SSD on a windows only system.
Clone the old HDD to the SSD or do a clean install?

I wold personally go for a clean install, since a fresh installation wont have any unwanted software or mallware.

Why can't you run your SSD alongside your hard drive?

this is probably the only place i'll hang out anymore: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/274320-the-long-awaited-car-thread/

I think you should. I would install your OS on the SSD and keep your data on the hard drive. IT seems to be the most common method.

Clean install is definitely the best way to go. Think of this as an opportunity to clean up all your stuff!

A clean install is recommended in this situation. If you clone the hard drive, the ssd may not be able to take advantage of TRIM functionality. If you want more information on what TRIM is, and what it does, you can check out this video:

Clean install, cloning might mess up the alignment and TRIM.

i would also recommend a clean install... some things like ahci-mode could get in your way if cloning from a hdd. at least, i've read a lot of topics where people had problems enabling ahci mode after switching from hdd to ssd with cloning.

a clean install of windows is always the best way to avoid any sort of problem.
