New SSD

Wackojacko

Hello everone,

im looking for a new SSD, i need a larger one , i have a 120gb samsung evo in m laptop now and a 1 tb HDD

i am thinking about swapping the hard drive out for another ssd, and using the hard drive as external storage for movies music and what not,

and use the 2 ssds for games, but i need a large and fast SSD for that, i was thinking what is the fastest SSD on the market now?

and what is the largest one available? the largest i have seen is 500GB is that the max atm?

it doesnt have to be cheap, but not insane expensive either, im just wondering what the fastest and biggest ou have or have seen.

thanks

I think the fastest 2.5" is the Samsung 850 Pro and Intel 730 series. The Samsung 840 EVO, Samsung 850 Pro and Crucial M550 come in 1TB.

@Wackojacko

The fastest SSDs, and most reliable are the Samsung 850 Pro and SanDisk Extreme Pro. Both come in terabyte capacities, insane performance and 10 year warranties. The Samsung is the slightly superior drive on paper.

The last generation is also a good bet, as prices have dropped: Samsung 840 Pro and SanDisk Extreme II. Of the 2, the SanDisk is the better performance and the better price (at least here), but only goes up to 480GB.

Only other one in the super high end market that I would consider is the Intel 730, but they are insanely expensive and not as good performing, so Samsung or SanDisk win out.

I recommend another Samsung 840 EVO, it has sizes up to 1TB, is not that expensive and is really, REALLY fast.

If you don't mind the price, go for the Samsung 850 Pro, it's consistently the fastest SATA III SSD out there, and it's also better for laptops as it has a type of "power saving mode" which does extend your battery life significantly.\

If you were on a tight budget, I'd say go with the Crucial MX100 (great price-to-performance ratio) or the Sandisk Ultra Plus SSD ([negligibly] lower power consumption than MX100, slightly better for laptops, but not as fast). They come in different sizes.
