I had a reference 290x for awhile, it's actually not as bad as people say it is.

 

 

Would of kept it, but I got a 290x lighting + waterblock for $500, lightning was brand new as well :D

If you live in canada and want a reference 290, this is the cheapest I've seen it yet.

It's hot if you leave the stock fan curve, if you make your own it's not bad at all. ~77-84c with decent airflow.

 

It was only loud at above ~65% fan speed, but it only needs like 55% fan speed to keep cool, so there's no real reason to ever have issues with noise.  If you have headphones it's barely noticeable (I have open headphones and it wasn't all that bad)

It's mostly because of immature 12 year olds on the internet seeing a video and thinking with their 12 year old brains.
