Rate my Build?

Things to do

  • New CPU cooler
  • Possibly a watercooling loop? never done this before so i guess it would make a good build log, not sure
  • New case at the moment everything is cramped into a tiny case and it looks like spaghetti

Overclocks

  • CPU is clocked at 4.2Ghz
  • Graphics Card at OC preset
  • Monitor at 2560x1440 (1080p native) and 77Hz (60Hz native)

Link to parts:

  1. Power Supply
  2. CPU
  3. Motherboard
  4. Monitor
  5. Graphics Card
  6. HDD - really wouldn't recommend
  7. Memory

Notes

I went with an i7 3770 at the time because it was about £30 cheaper than an i7 3770k and the other generations weren't out at the time. When the time comes to upgrade (next year sometime?) I'll be going with an extreme series CPU.

Yeah, I was planning on adding one sooner or later but trying to hold off until the prices come down or something. I occasionally use the upper-end of 20GBs of ram when rendering with After Effects

How would you improve it?

I gave 5 because i never liked the idea of having 32gb of ram on a i7. Also you picked ram over an SSD. That's just bad. But that's just me

As I am looking at it, really nice OC of your monitor ;) Didn't know that you can up the resolution as well, or how should I phrase it. OC your GPU, free performance!

Really, if only you got a 3770K, but you already game me a good answer, looking forward to your next upgrade, btw which CPU cooler are you going to get/which one do you currently use?

I think it's definitely worth 7.5/10

Btw... is your RAM running at 1333MHz??? Really?

For SSD I really do recommend Samsung 840 EVO line, best performance/price/reliability ;)

Yeah, only found out about the refresh rate overclock a couple of days ago, I've had my resolution at 1440p for a couple of weeks now thanks to Linus' downsampling video, you should try it out - I've really noticed the difference ingame. Yeah, planning on overclocking my GPU soon enough, I'm really not patient enough to do it! I'm currently using the stock Intel cooler, planning on going under water or Hyper 212 Evo, whichever I can be bothered doing when it comes to it. I have been shopping round for an SSD recently, I'll look into them 840 EVOs, they look good, thanks for the suggestion!

Looking into it, I'm not really sure what's underclocked my memory, I'll fix that :P

i would put 16 gigs of ram, and put a ssd in it.

also consider putting a 4770 or a 4770k in it.

Not bad. I'd add an SSD, maybe get a bigger case so you can watercool in it. Other than that, it's pretty solid. An unlocked CPU would be better, but oh well. 30 pounds is 30 pounds :P

Specs: 4790k | Asus Z-97 Pro Wifi | MX100 512GB SSD | NZXT H440 Plastidipped Black | Dark Rock 3 CPU Cooler | MSI 290x Lightning | EVGA 850 G2 | 3x Noctua Industrial NF-F12's

Bought a powermac G5, expect a mod log sometime in 2015

Corsair is overrated, and Anime is ruined by the people who watch it

8/10 really nice OC on the CPU.

Are you going to use it for gaming only? Otherwise 32GB RAM is a bit overkill but of you are going to do things like rendering images and doing some blender stuff it is great.

Maybe you can attempt to get some extra juice out of that GPU? It's worth a try right?
