Thoughts on this build?

Paul567

Hey guys, I was wondering if you had any thoughts or comments regarding this build I'm working on: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/tkpfnQ

The objective of this build is to make a gaming machine that will be an improvement over my existing toaster. The weak points on the toaster is the Core2 Duo and motherboard that doesn't even have an x16 PCIe slot. I want to cut costs down a bit by reusing my old video card and hard drive (see build) but still give me some room to expand in the future; I figure I can do this by getting a CPU and motherboard that will allow me to overclock it once I get the funds for proper cooling.

Any advice you guys have would be most appreciated.

Your are overspending on that mobo, VERY overspending

get this mobo Gigabyte GA-990FX-UD3

Also I really don't trust that PSU when it comes to OC, maybe a Supernova NEX 650W from EVGA will do better

My current rig for entertainment/gaming: i5 4570 3,2GHz; MSI B85M-E45; ZOTAC GTX760 AMP!; 8GB (2x4GB) by Kingston; Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm; Corsair 200R, Corsair VS650; Dell U2312HM, Samsung DVD R/W optical drive; CM Devastator; Corsair MM400 gaming pad

Thanks for pointing out my over spending on the motherboard. My big reason for going with the Crosshair was because it supported 2400Mhz RAM, which I thought would be a big deal because bigger is always better. Your comments made me look into it a little more and then I stumbled on this so now I can shave a few hundred bucks off the build. Thanks!

I wasn't completely sold on the power supply either and I figured I would be upgrading it when I decided to overclock. I'll take your suggestion into consideration. Thanks!
