Motherboard(s) Question.

I've noticed the past few builds i've done for recent clients that the motherboards have not come with a speaker for the 'Post-Beeps'

Call me old-fashioned but i like the old 4-pin speaker beeping when you turn the PC on.

Just a heads up, the speakers aren't built-in, and only a couple of them had Post-LED's. I'm aware of these.

But yeah? Lazy?Cost Effective?

Any light on this situation is more than welcome and much appreciated.

Yeah I notice this too. My Asus Rampage IV Extreme came with a speaker, but all the motherboards I've used for other builds haven't.

My motherboard when it was built came with a speaker, so i think im seeing a money-saving trend haha.

It's been quite awhile since I saw one of those, I'm curious too.

I thought I was just getting the recycled/refurbed mobos haha. good not just me :P

I see them on the cheaper boards like H61/H81 that our shop uses the the lower cost builds.

They seem to be more of a OEM thing.

A lot of newer boards have built in derp protection or LEDs to signal what's wrong/POST readout.

Ok, so the rigs i've been building have the H81 chipset.. just your cheapo cost-effective motherboard, and NONE of them came with a speaker :(

i miss it :(

Gigabyte like to throw them in with their cheapo boards, but they have around 30 too many H81 boards in their lineup so I can't recall which.

They also come with the cheapo blue PCB H61 and 760G boards.

I got about 15 POST speakers lying around :P

You need something like this:

2011-08-14_015908_mbspk.jpeg

That thing just connects to where you plug your reset & power buttons.

He knows that :P

He's just upset that boards no longer come with an arguably useful thing.

In tech support they're good as I can check someones Serial number if it's one of our machines, ask them if it beeps when they turn it on and check the board manual for useful info on error :)
