Shielding a PCIE Riser - Copper, Aluminum, or Tin Plated Copper?

Basically which material provides the best EMI shield. I don't want to waste $80 on a shielded riser for something you could easily do yourself. I have gotten so many mixed results that I honestly do not know anymore.

Buy a shielded riser.

One of the reasons why I am asking is because they are so expensive. And plus, the cheap shielded ones usually dont work at all.

Copper plated copper? What :P

 

I don't know, but I do know this; MAKE SURE THE RISER IS A POWERED RISER.

there are EMI Shileding tape from 3M.. try to get some of that.

I get that the price is not what the OP wants, this is more generally asking about powered risers.

For powered risers, I modified mine to be powered (not too hard)

Non-powered risers can lead to burns and scorching of the pci connection due to lack of power in the pci connection. Causing damage for everything and can actually lead to fire.

 

there are EMI Shileding tape from 3M.. try to get some of that.

 

I'll look into the 3M EMI Shielding Tape. Thanks.
