Should I buy a 7990

So I was checking a couple of websites and I found a  XFX 7990 for $600. I don't really need another gpu, since I already have a 780, but I am tempted to buy the 7990 because it looks sexy as hell and it's new. Should I buy it and ignore the fact that it has been discontinued in Q3 2013? I would still use the 780 in my rig (nvidia fanboy), but should I buy the 7990 and build a 1600p capable rig?

Yes, it could be a backup GPU, plus the pricing is a real bargain, and if you do look at the benchmarks, it has beat the GTX 690 in some stuff, but ofc the GTX 690 beats it at more stuff. But for 600 is a real good price

There are GTX 690's going for £250 on eBay over here in the UK. I guess it's new so that's a plus. Yeah go for it. at 1600p you'd get 60fps+ in every game out there.

Does not mean "want" as far as my knowledge goes. XFX 7990 has 6 GB of vram which is 3 per core. Same as a 780. It would make more sense to get a second 780 (which is more powerful than a 7970 chip) and game at 1600p that way. Second systems make absolutely zero sense. Why build a second system for a different purpose when you can have a better single system for all purposes? Also, XFX sucked during the 7xxx series.

Because I have a 780 that's really hard to find for reasonable prices. they come at $700+

I don't even know why. I build systems and sell them, I could sell a rig with a 7990 for much more than the usual, and since it's "only" $600, I would make a pretty reasonable profit out of it.

If you are sure you can make a profit, go for it.

But if you are keeping it, a second 780 is probably a much better for 1600p gaming.

Ignore all those naysayers, I say go for it! ;)  I understand this......itch, it consumes you and you feel a need to 'scratch' it. I once built, a long time back, an AMD AM2 rig + a 7600GT (along with everything else for a complete system) just for the hell of it. It was a fun build and I was practising for higher end builds. Do it dude, and have fun! :D BTW, I sold away that rig (already had two rigs back then) soon after completing it, more or less broke even......wasn't doing it to make a profit, it was more for fun and practice.
