Editing/4k capable gaming PC (respectable budget)

Recon-UK
Go to solution Solved by thedigitalmilk,

@Recon-UK Not to mention you would have to drop a huge amount of your budget on a 4K monitor, I say build the rig for 2.5K and in two years get a decent 4k monitor for a buttload cheaper, then chose from the inherently better graphics solutions at that time.

Hi all, i am in the market for something fast/ brash and just outrageously capable at 4k, though max settings will depend on software more than hardware due to incapable coders ;)

I am set on an intel platform so that i get maximum GPU scaling, and a GCN based GPU for that Mantle goodness, although Direct3D 12 will provide the same thing across both GPU vendors, but AMD have the value/performance. I am more compelled by Nvidia's drivers, but that is off topic and nit picking.

I will start off on a budget of 2000GBP (pounds) can raise this if needed, will just need to be spread across a few months instead though.

Here is my desired websites of choice:

http://www.scan.co.uk/

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/

http://www.amazon.co.uk/

Please do share opinions which hold water to my wants, and do recommend products that you feel are better suited.

Cheers to all :)

The GPUs just aren't there yet better off holding off a few years before spending a ton of money on a 4k rig

Also editing to what extend? Pro or Consumer?

Excellent build, it also incorporates a tonne of storage which is a plus, i also want to answer the other question about editing, i will only be doing video encoding/editing, and emulation, this calls for a fast memory subsystem and fast IPC.

The only thing i am a bit skeptical about is the motherboard choice and power supply, i do wish to have wiggle room with my PSU for expansion, i also enjoy great cabling, which Corsair seem to provide on certain classes of PSU. MSI have failed me with intel (P67) but have been extremely reliable for my AMD machines.

GTX TITAN.... not the most pocket friendly cards, but they do offer a larger frame buffer, though i doubt this makes hardly a difference in most cases, even at 4k.

In regards to platform and CPU choices, they are both what i had in mind, though i did think about Z87 too.

4k for gaming needs VRAM and a lot of it, 290's would be my second choice but if you have the money, go titans. Also they double as a workstation card, which may benefit you.

You have the money, why settle for second best?

Honestly you can't generalize by the manfacteur. MSI is a decent brand and the motherboard would go well with the overall back look i choose. (Except for the ram but what ever it's cheap) And you do have headroom in therms of wattage. You'll not be able to add another R9 290 but you have about 150 Watts of headroom for little upgrades such as extra HDD's, SSD's, Fans and so on. And since Maxwell is here and shows us how efficent GPU's can/ will be we don't need 1000 Watt PSU's anymore.

Second best and a few pints, and luxury perhiphirals sound a much better rounded package than just 2 of the best GPU's for a 5% improvement in a certain operation ;)

I do however fully take into consideration what you are typing :)
