DDR3 memory more and more expensive

DDR3 memory prices have nearly doubled lately. First time I was like...yeah right, 10-20 % is nothing...but now it's just growing. Does somebody know why? When will this increase stops? I mean, it can't go as far as DDR2 is right now, there is no DDR4 at all to replace the mainstream DDR3!

Can we speculate that factories are already investing in DDR4 and...well...try to make some final profit by hammering the market?

I think Linus and slick covered this in a live stream some weeks back.

Basically the margins on memory are tiny so it may be that we're just seeing the end of a price war and that prices are startign to normalize so that these companies can turn a little profit to stay afloat.

 

It's still going to be the cheapest component in pretty much any system.

to be fair, it was stupendously cheap for a while there, i remeber 8 gigs of g.skill being around 40 euro or so? it couldn't sustain itself really..

This is also do to a RAM shortage companies are devoting more and more RAM production to Smartphone RAM and what not and I think I remember Linus saying that Samsung  sold more RAM then they could produce so there for creating a shortage of some type driving price up.

8gb generic 1866 mhz memory=500gb WD...so...yeah :D

Actually most systems won't have more than 4gb 1333 memory. My apologies..

I got 2x4GB used g.skill ripjaws x 2133mhz for 40$. lol. Just 1 month before the price increase.

How about SSD's? I remember buying my Vertex 4 for €189 and is now selling for €229. Just not cool...

i read somethink about DDR4 in the next years (2016 or so...) but i dont know why prices keep growing. I had real luck and bought 16GB G.SKILL DDR3 ram for like 70 €. It was really cheap
