Lense for filming

Go to solution Solved by Omon_Ra,

Get a zoom lens with a constant aperture if it's in your budget.

Get a Canon FD-mount 35-105mm/f3.5, constant aperture and parfocal. The first one has a bunch of extras, bottom one is just the lens for $35. Seriously buy it now and one of these: http://www.metabones.com/products/details/MB_SPFD-m43-BM1 It will make it a 50-149mm/f2.5. And even with a normal FD to m4/3 adapter (also very cheap) a 70-210mm is quite useful. And it can do macro pretty well.

I don't know anything about this lens, but it looks interesting.. http://www.ebay.de/itm/RMC-Tokina-Close-Focusing-Zoom-35-105mm-35-105-mm-1-3-5-3-5-Canon-FD-/380684071810?pt=DE_Foto_Camcorder_Objektive&hash=item58a289f382

Regular FD to m4/3 adapters (you can find them on Amazon easily too) http://www.ebay.de/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2047675.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.Xfd+to+m4%2F3&_nkw=fd+to+m4%2F3&_sacat=0

I have a Panasonic G6 with a micro four thirds lense shoe. What kind of lense would be good for filming. It should not cost more than 500ish Euros. Also it needs image stabilization, because the camera does that over the lense.

I really don't have any clue. Mostly it will be used for Reviews and medium shots of people in normal light environments.

RIght now I have this one. Do you mean it should only have a small radius? From 14 to 24 or 14-24 and up?

You're gonna want a 35mm, 50mm, and 85mm. Its good to have a few options for focal length. There is a rule in filmmaking called the 30 degree/20mm rule. This means when changing shots, you need to either A) move 30 degrees, or B) change your focal length by 20mm, or C) (which is the best to do) both. But if you can only get one lens, I would get a zoom lens that can do about 30-85mm.

I'd go for one of the 14-140mm kit lenses. Even though they're a little bit slower (the older ones were f4.0-5.8; the newer modes are f3.5-5.6, same as the 14-42). They have a better build quality and I never feel like 42mm is enough. If you're looking at mid-long focal lengths, there's always legacy lenses that are just as good, if not better, for a lot less on ebay. Just don't forget about the 2x crop factor.

Thank you very much!. What is about Imagine Stabilization? I mostly do shots on a stand, but some movement is always nice in a video.

Oooh, right. I had forgotten you mentioned that in the OP... The problem is longer lenses make it harder to shoot handheld. It's definitely do-able, I just have to really steady myself. I have a pistol grip and I usually shoot through the viewfinder. More contact points the better. You can get all kinds of rigs and stuff, it just gets expensive quick. I really wish Panasonic would get on the in-body image stabilization game...

What camera do you have? I don't use the viewfinder because I am afraid that I will make some noise and the mic will pick it up. If I can afford it, I want to get a stand alone mic anyways, but until then. Could you also link your pistol grip please?

I have a GH2. I have one pistol grip that I took off of a lightbar I got on craigslist, but I did buy one of these which is a lot nicer:
