A full 1080p 60fps machine with peripherals you can even build for 1200$ and less. Depends how much you love him. Look for a ryzen 5 + gtx 1060 3gb build best bang for the buck atm.

I'd get a Ryzen 5 1600 and a 1060 3GB for him. It'll be perfect for 1080p.

I'll link a pcpartpicker, brb while I make one.

There you go. I swapped out the GTX 1060 for an RX 580.

I added an SSD for Windows and programs and then I added a HDD for files.

ehh... 3GB 1060? He better utilize little more money and get 6GB variant instead (better future proofing at 1080p). Still it won't be anywhere near 1500$ considering rest of the build stays same. I also recommend atleast 16GB RAM which is easily feasible with that kind of budget.

Yeah, it was only until I got onto pcpartpicker that I realised what you can do with $1500. I'm British so I'm not familiar with $ lol.

^^^ Facts. At 1080p ultra lots of games use more than 3GB VRAM, the 1060 3GB is a pretty dumb choice if you can afford a 1060 6GB. In that budget you could easily fit a 1070/Vega 56 or mebbe even a 1080/Vega 64. Sweet spot would probs be an RX580/590 8GB though.

You've got room in the budget for an aftermarket cooler (240mm AIO or something like an NH-D15S should be great if you wanna push a good OC, a 120mm AIO keeps my R5 1600 nice and cool), fancier keyboard if he's into that (I have the same keyboard/keys but the RGB version). Could get a 1440p screen, or swap to a Vega 56/64 to take advantage of freesync, the screen I chose has it and tons of other monitors do since AMD doesn't pull all the royalties/licensing crap and such that Nvidia does with G-Sync so it doesn't drive up the price.
