Try using Spybot Search and Destroy and Malwarebytes to clean up the viruses. Use CCleaner to fix up your registry issues.

I had something similar happen to me recently. It was a good reminder to pay attention to what is being installed, I had missed a check box that let some crap in.

I had that happen to me a while ago with another Conduit piece of crap. I did this. First of all you need to remove conduit from your computer, follow these instructions:

For Windows Vista and Windows 7:

Open the Star menu and click Control Panel. Click Uninstall a program. Double-click the unwanted toolbar or program.

For Windows XP

Open the Start menu and Click Control Panel. Select Add or Remove Programs. Double-click the program that you want to remove.

Windows 8

Press and hold down the Windows key and press R. Type control panel. Click OK. Click Uninstall a program. Double-click the program you want to remove.

Next step is to remove conduit search from browsers:

Internet Explorer

Pres Alt+T. Click Internet Options. Open the Advanced tab. Click Reset. Select the check box given in a new window and click Reset. To end the procedure, click Close.

Mozilla Firefox

Press Alt+H. Select Troubleshooting Information. Click Reset Firefox – > Reset Firefox – > Finish.

Google Chrome

Press Alt+F. Go to Tools – > Extensions. Remove the unwanted add-on. Click Settings. In the On Startup section, click Set pages and change the startup page. In the Search Section, click Manage search engine and change the search provider.

So my main concern is that one of the tool bar programs refuses to uninstall itself b/c it says it can't find the uninstall path. Will the programs stated above by the other posters work for uninstalling this stubborn toolbar?

You could do manual uninstall or try a system restore.

There is a tool to remove .dll startup entries. Can't remember what it is called. You need to run a tool like that though. EDIT!

To resolve this, download AutoRuns and save it to your Desktop.

  • Create a new folder on your hard drive called AutoRuns (C:\AutoRuns) and extract (unzip) the file there.
  • Open the folder and double-click on autoruns.exe to launch it.
  • Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator.
  • Please be patient as it scans and populates the entries.
  • When finished scanning, it will say Ready at the at the bottom and list all entries under the Everything tab.
  • In the top menu, click File > Find... and type the file name (backgroundcontainer.dll) related to the error message, then click Find Next.
  • Alternatively, you can scroll through the list and look for any entry related to backgroundcontainer.dll and conduit.
  • If found, right-click on the entry and choose delete.
  • Exit Autoruns and reboot your computer when done

*lurks patiently*

Install a newer version of I.E, or you know, stop using I.E because it is horrible? Install Firefox.

Also download and run CCleaner. When it opens click on Tools -> Add/Remove and find the toolbar and remove it.

I don't use I.E. I use F.F. The toolbar is gone from the records of my windows uninstaller list but it still is on I.E but I will try installing a clean  newer I.E.

Okay I have the latest I.E so I can't reinstall I.E 11. The toolbar is still on IE, and I want it gone. Any ideas? Also now when I start my pc it says that conduit can't start up. Good thing or bad thing.

I would use CCleaner to go into your startup and disable+delete the conduit value to remove that message. But I guess its a good thing because it can't start. :)

I think I've gotten rid of all of the conduit mess. I.E doesn't have the toolbar anymore, and the conduit and relate toolbar is gone from my windows Uninstaller list, conduit is gone from my registry. Is there any way to check if it is completely gone?

Run a full system scan on your computer would be a good choice.
