Looking for a good Amd or Intel motherboard and chip that could get me 90 to 100 fps on gta v and other high quality games. Hopefully keeping the price under or around $500.00 Cad I am not to sure what my best bet is at the moment my old pc had a core I5 but now I'm upgrading to ddr4 so far this is my parts list of what I got.  Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated can't really spend to much at this time. Sorry if this is the wrong forum Linus and others.

How about a r5 2600x and a b450 board?

Get dual channel memory, that is kits with more than 1 stick. Then lower settings a bit. You should able to hit 100fps at 1080p this way in GTA 5

I would recommend the i5 8400 (unless you can get the 8600K for less than $30 more) and a b310 board if you don't plan to overclock.

Get the i5 if you just want the best performance right now. The Ryzen would be best if you can handle a few less FPS but you would have better upgrade ability in the future. Motherboards for Ryzen are normally cheaper as well

Something like an MSI Tomahawk or Gaming Pro Carbon would be ok.
