4k 45-60fps no-aa cpu bottleneck

Hello,

I am a casual gamer mostly playing RPG, real time n turn based strategy games targetting a 45-60 fps in games. Higher refresh rate is not what im looking for, based on the nature of the games that i'm playing, however the higher resolution is quite welcomed. From searching around various benchmarks i've found that my dream setup would be mostly GPU bound, so i would like to spend most of my budget on the gpu around the 1070ti vega56 range. Im looking towards pairing it with a second hand prebuilt, but i'm fearing of bottlenecking the gpu horsepower with an old cpu. Searching the net i didn't have much luck finding benchmarks testing current versions of gpus with old 4th gen intel cpus (currently im looking at a prebuilt pc with an i7 4770 or i5 4590).

I'm looking for 4k benchmarks of older gen cpus paired with current gen gpus (or older gen titans with a similiar performance) and im wondering about possible instabilities for such a setup

I think you'd be much better served going 1440p on a 27 inch monitor vs 4k (you didn't say what size screen).   That 1070Ti is going to struggle to do your 4k needs I think.

LTT just had a vid on 1080p vs 1440p vs 4K, and 1440p looks about as good as 4K while actually gaming, and you can get and drive a 1440p 144Hz monitor a lot easier than a 4K 144Hz one. 4K is the best for a lot of text work though.

i was thinking about an 4k 27-28inch monitor. I agree with you about the 1440p resoltuion for first person shooters n racing games, linus showed that it's not noticeable in the video 4K Gaming is Dumb. However the nature of slow paced games that i like doesnt require high fps and i think i would have more real estate on the monitor.

Until now i've had just a 1080p screen so i have no idea how 1440p/4k looks IRL

Run your ass over to a store and SEE them in person.  I did.  Spent an afternoon in Microcenter, then walked out with a 3440x1440p ultrawide goddess.  A bit more real estate than a 27", okay lots more.  But it's nowhere near the pixel count of a 4k display, meaning I can have Ultra settings AND fantastic pixel density.  And G-sync, cuz needs :)

It is only in your best interest to actually SEE what 1440p and 4k look like at various screen sizes before speculating and asking opinions.  They do not really help until you have a frame of reference.

So after you hit the store tonight or tomorrow, let us know what you've discovered.

Hint: The correct answer is 1440p Ultrawide.

there was just a 4k video on replay, so i couldnt experience the real thing, but the landscapes were noticeable-y nicer than on the 1440p

why does ppl force high fps over anything? the higher fps on turn based n rpg games is wasted. i dont want to spend money on extra horsepower for fluidity, but to use it for more pixels (more UI, nicer landscapes, larger views) and i am willing to sacrifice input lag for nicer colors (IPS). Im not a competitive gamer i want it just to look nice

i havent noticed a big difference on the 4k video between 1440p n 4k, however between sdr and hdr the difference was quite big. I've seen a few videos of linus and he doesn't reccomend it for daily use, because the colors r worse when u dont watch a hdr movie and the monitor has to adapt sdr input to a hdr output

what i've noticed too is that monitors with higher brightness amounts display colors nicer-ly and with higher dynamic ranges too ( was it a placebo effect or is it a fact)

Higher brightness is a cheap tactic by retailers to make TV's look better than they are.

People want high FPS cuz we all fancy ourselves leet gamers and eSports.  Get what you like, screw us.  I opt for both within my own parameters.

Don't even get me started on streaming.  Cuz the world wants to watch you play video games, sure! :)
