I recently switched to u block because of similar problems. I would suggest that or reinstalling adblock.

Maybe the extension is blocking the page? have you tried checking your block lists?

i'd rather not do that, because i'm often away from home. i'd like a solution that works everywhere.

i switched to ublock, but i don't like it... it's difficult to get to the preferences of it and once you get there, sending ping traffic and "anonymous" data is enabled...

There are two versions of uBlock.

uBlock and uBlock Origin. The one the community refering is uBlock Origin.

Here - https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/ublock-origin/cjpalhdlnbpafiamejdnhcphjbkeiagm

There has been some problems in the past between the devs of the OG uBlock, Which led to the birth of uBlock Origin.

I suggest reading this to understand the difference between uBlock and uBlock Origin -
