Best HDD brand

Go to solution Solved by LukeSavenije,

I think both are fine. Seagate, WD, Samsung, Hitachi and Toshiba. Just pick a cheap, reliable 7200 rpm hdd for that. I've never had a drive fail under 7 years

I have decided to buy a HDD.

But my budget is not that big. I need a 1 TB HDD.

When choosing a HDD brand I saw this. So segate is out of the way.

In my country there’s only 2 Brand. Seagate & Toshiba & warranty is around 2 years. Price is almost same....

I’m running a Toshiba 500GB for almost 5 years without any issue....

So which one should I get?

Is there any brand which is most reliable apart from this 2??

Thanks all

There isn't really a difference I would say. I use all companies I mensioned above, and only a WD scorpio black and a blue failed on me recently. but that black was 7 years old, and the blue even 12 years.

For me Im partial to 2tb WD black for long term reliability while I use Seagates 7200rpm 2tb firecudas for reg storage. WD is just a bit to expensive at msrp, if u can get for 40-50 bucks off then get it but if not go with Seagate and the Firecuda series.

Honestly there isn't one brand thats better than the other, to find that out we would need to test billions of drives over decades of time to even come close to a realistic guess. All we can do as of now is look at the data companies like these guys to give us info about there server drives and what ones lasted longer.

But that ain't good enough for a proper analysis honestly, thats why most just off of if they happened to get a lemon from said company. Leaves quite the sour taste for them.

Don't fret too much just get well known brands for the drives and then make sure u backup your data to off sight drives and you'll be fine. Good luck

You expect me to reply then you'd best QUOTE me so I can........thanks

How is WD Green??

WD no longer makes Green HDDs. Supposedly, the 5400rpm Blues were to be essentially rebadged Greens but the new Blues have been getting a lot of user reviews complaing of early failures.

As long as anyone is oppressed, no one will be safe and free.

One has to be proactive, not reactive, to ensure the safety of one's data so backup your data! And RAID is NOT a backup!
