Do i need an amd card to use a monitor that has freesync?

I have a gtx 1060 6gb and im looking into buying the MSI Optic G24C. The monitor has freesync but obviously I can’t use it. Is freesync an option i can disable with the monitor or is it always on? If the monitor even compatable with the gpu as in it will get more screen tearing even though it is 144hz?

You can still use it as a high refresh rate monitor with your GTX 1060. You just do not get the benefits of FreeSync obviously. You will need a DisplayPort cable to utilize 144Hz, you won't hit 144FPs while gaming though.

You could possibly chech to see if the monitor has a G-Sync option which is the nVidia equivalent to Freesync

If you don't have an AMD card, it will just operate like any normal 144 Hz monitor.

What do you mean i wont hit 144fps? As in i wont hit it because the monitor wont let me do 144hz because i have an nvidia card or are you talking about without the display port cable? Because the monitor comes with a display port in the box

A GTX 1060 won't get you 144FPS unless you intend to lower your settings. But you can still enable 144Hz. But you will need the DisplayPort cable to do so is what I am saying.

It's a FreeSync monitor it does not have G-sync.

It's a FreeSync monitor it does not have G-sync.

Some games could get 144hz like cs, gmod, (dont judge) even minecraft, i intend to upgrade later down the road but the G24C has 110% sRGB so its a nice monitor for my graphics design stuff i do, siege also gets around 100fps on high settings so i could defenatly push it past 144fps

Yeah fair enough those games will hit higher FPS haha. I was thinking AAA titles at Ultra settings with Anti-Aliasing at medium to low settings. But it is still a good monitor.
