Screen Tearing with Displayport

Hi all. I am currently using a GTX 1070 connected to two monitors, which are nothing special (1080p, 60 Hz). I recently got a Displayport cable to  use with one of my monitors (the other one only supports up to HDMI). Before it was using DVI. Recently, I noticed massive screen tearing issues while gaming. I'm not sure what the issue is. I tested with both monitors and it seems to be an issue for both. The last thing I tried was to unplug the HDMI monitor while gaming and noticed a significant decrease in tearing, if any occurred at all. Does anyone have any idea as to why this would occur? I don't believe it has anything to do with the GTX 1070. It could be the monitors (I really hope not, I can't afford new ones as a student at the moment). Could it be a bad Displayport cable, and if so how would I test that with ripping it apart and using a digital multimeter?

It does help, just the game feels a lot slower and sluggish. Is it due to the fact that my monitor is only 60 Hz, and a shitty monitor at that?

Most likely mate, I'd invest in an upgrade. Especially with your build you could easily run 144hz 1440p

I would love an upgrade. But... you know... rent and tuition....

I know that feel, I've been there. Try and put up with it for now if you can and just save until you can afford it. I'm waiting until Christmas to get a RTX 2080ti, partly because i need all my paycheck this month and hopefully by then the issues with RMA etc. will be ironed out. We'll see though.

Have a look at this monitor though, there's only a 10 quid difference between 22" and 24" and it's fairly cheap

You think the extra 15 Hz would make that much of a difference? It's still fairly expensive here (Canada). I may try and wait until Black Friday and boxing day for a decently priced monitor.
