RTX 2080 Ti issues

Hi all,

 

Card in question is Palit RTX 2080 Ti GamingPro OC (not overclocked, is as is straight from the box.

 

Been trying to play games on this and it’s basically been a giant bag of dicks and I have no idea why so here’s what I’ve done:

 

1. Played World of Warships but it crashes unless you play it at 1080p with HDR off, if played at 1080p it will play stabile at around 177 FPS on ultra high settings. As soon as you move it to 4K it crashes and hard locks the computer requiring a manual restart,

 

2. Installed steam and only installed one game so far (Subnautica) and I got it to load into a game with resolution set to 4K but it hard locks the system after about 30 seconds give or take a few seconds each time, same thing happens in 1080p,

 

3. Installed Fortnite and it hard locks on loading screen regardless of resolution.

 

I have tried all three games at both 4K and 1080p with and without HDR at both resolutions. I have tried using driver from Nvidia directly and also the latest driver from Palits site and it makes no difference.

 

Anyone know what’s going on here? Pretty enraging having a £1,200 card that’s doing nothing.

Did you use DDU?

And don't use drivers from palit, use the nvidia ones.

Many of the issues seem to be driver related, the 20x0 series has been having some serious driver issues.  Sometimes though it is a problem of the GPU.

 

Are you using more than 1 display?  What if you unplug the other display.

Only using one display which is a Hisense 65” 4K TV (w/HDR10) into the HDMI port on the RTX

The software you user to properly uninstall GPU drivers.

Sorry no I haven’t I’ve just been using each drivers installer to overright the other

flickering if using more than 1 monitor, crashes in some games with gsync, so i'd suggest turning those off when gaming

if you have a gsync monitor, that's the cause of the freezes, turn off gsync.

I don’t have a GSync monitor, I’ve tried outputting at my TVs native resolution (3840px by 2160px at 60 Hz) and at a scaled down 1080p at 60 Hz. Each time chosen through the Nvidia Configurator.

hmmm try ddu first then as others suggested.

Yeah I’ll try DDU and then clean install the Nvidia drivers then report back with how it’s done

This has to be a driver issue from what I read.  What card did you have before the 2080,  I think DDU might help you in this situation.  good luck

None, it is a brand new build (specs in profile) it’s 2am here in the U.K. and I just finished proofing a technical paper so I’m going to sleep now. Thanks everyone for the pointers: I will update this thread when I use DDU and fresh drivers tomorrow

I have the same card, but paired with an Acer XR341CK monitor which does 3440x1440, and I've had absolutely no issue with it. Try DDU first, be sure to have the latest driver ready, and disable net connection before restarting computer are using DDU (Windows has this habit of installing a driver in the background if it 'sees' that there's no driver for the GPU). Good luck with DDU, let's hope it works though I'm a tad doubtful since it's a new build, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you....and yeah, goodnight.

Thanks everyone the driver install worked a treat and I can now play games! 

 

I am doing some gentle OC on my components now and I noted when I was benching my CPU in CPU-Z that my GPU clock is 300 Mhz, surely that isn't correct? Or is that it simply idling? I think there is a problem because even on Userbenchmark the RTX 2080 Ti is scoring WAYYYY below expected. Even with an overclock it says my 2700X is performing below average.

I amlso having real troubles getting decent latency out of my RAM. I have upped the multiplier to 3400 and it's stable (it was originally 3200 after all) and changed my timings to 18-20-20-20-40 which I found from an article on Toms Hardware discussing the exact RAM used. He was able to get it to 3733 at those settings but when I try that it keeps resetting the system.

 

Would really appreciate any advice!
