Computer stops working

My computer will randomly jam for a few seconds than the whole thing just becomes unusable. The audio will jam and after a few seconds return to normal but the screen will be stuck at the same image. Attempting to reboot the pc will just cause it to boot but with nothing showing on my screen. I would have to wait a few hours before attempting to boot it up for it to run properly again. Any help?

1st if you can, download Malwarebytes to remove any potential malware on the pc. 2nd update drivers for your pc. 3rd Possibly hardware issue because if your bios isn't showing up we can rule out the hard drive. I hate to say this, but it might be time for a upgrade @charlieten

Thanks for the help. I can't afford to upgrade my PC and i was hoping it would die out a little more later. Thanks for your suggestions. I will try it and see if it helps.
