Laptop Specs in a ITX PC

XukeLho

I need to buy a semi-portable gaming thing.

I have the oportunity to buy this laptop for around 500$ https://www.amazon.com/MSI-GE72-Pro-070-NOTEBOOK-i7-6700HQ/dp/B0150PK5UO?th=1

I need something portable, but it got me wondering, how much would it cost to build an ITX PC (as small as possible) with the specs (or similar) to the laptop.

The parts could be used, brand new, or both :)

Can you guys help me out?

it's cheaper to buy a laptop and just add a monitor to it XD.

Also 1080 Ti's are not being manufactured anymore so alle the Videocard prices wil go up a bit again.

Positive Mental Additude!

Just another Tired IT guy...

I thought even though the ITX has a small form factor, it would be cheaper then a similar hardware laptop. Is it the other way around? Laptops are cheaper then ITX PCs?

itx doesn't mean it is going to be cheaper... laptop are hard to compare to pc at all, even with itx, i7 from laptop is as powerfull as mid tier desktop cpu

For a LAN party ITX build, this is what I came up with:

For the CPU cooler I recommend picking up an AMD Wraith Stealth for under $15 on Amazon, it is amazing compared to aftermarket coolers (replaced my Noctua and Cryorig with it, much less noise and lower temps). If you'd prefer an NVIDIA GPU then the GTX 1060 6GB is slightly slower than the RX 580 and you'd be adding $20 to the cost. Also if the 500GB SSD isn't enough for all of your games then I'd recommend picking up a USB 3.0 external drive for your game library since fitting even a single 2.5" drive in there will be tough unless you want to switch over to a modular PSU or get creative with cable management (all of my extra PSU cables are in the 2 spots where drives are supposed to go).

Now of course, this might be overkill for the games you play so you can easily cut the price below $500 if you're not playing anything too demanding. Like others have said converting older laptop hardware to desktop hardware is a bit hard to do so I just built something that will handle most games so if it's overkill then take a look at a GTX 1050 or 1050 Ti, just make sure whatever video card you get look for a blower style card for an ITX case since you do not want the hot air circulating inside the small case.
