Upgrade path for i5 6600k

So my 4 cores and 4 threads 6600k is around 2 years old now. I don't particularly have any trouble with it just wondering an upgrade path for the next year or so. i'm thinking upgrading my gtx 1060 to 1070ti or 1080 (or maybe 2060), but I still can't decide for my cpu. I mainly used it for gaming in 1080p ( for now).

So, should I :

1. Buy i7 6700k (so no motherboard upgrade) for around 200$

2. Upgrade to ryzen 7 1700 or 2700 (with motherboard upgrade), I don't really know the budget for this

3. Other cpu + motherboard combo

If you stay on the same chipset, your best option would be the i7 7700k as its the fastest chip that you can run on a z170 board, assuming you have a z170 with the 6600k. This will give you the best pure gaming experience over upgrading to a ryzen chip. Now if you do more than just pure gaming, a Ryzen chip is more compelling for live streaming, video editing, production work etc at the cost of about 5-10% on average loss in FPS compared to intels side of things.

you should already have some upgrade path in mind when you buy i5, upgrading every 2-3 yrs ?

what makes you feel i5 not capable of? - by the way whats your gpu?

Above gtx 1070, I think you have to upgrade the 6600k, the cheapest option is i7 6700k / 7700k, but I think at the same time smart, I think the change of motherboard and cpu is for next year, is what I intend to do, whether for intel or amd. For God .. 7700k was king in games a little over a year ago.

If you want to stay with Intel i'd go for the 7700K, only if you can find one used. Brand new they're still $489 CAD. Switching to a Ryzen 7 and purchasing a new board would cost the same as a new Intel i7 however, If you want the same gaming performance as Intel you'll have to overclock the Ryzen and RAM.

Out of the box, Intel will always have a gaming advantage due to their higher clock speeds.

Intel Core i7 9700F / Cooler Master 212 Evo / GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER / 16 GB G.SKILL RAM @ 2666MHz / GA-B365M-DS3H / EVGA 500w PSU

HP Pavilion Gaming 15 / Ryzen 5 4600H / GeForce GTX 1050 / 8 GB @ 3200MHz
