Another z390 mb question.....

So this is my current build and I'm wondering if the motherboard will be holding me back from "the best" performance possible with the rest of the components:

I plan on doing some overclocking on the ram (at least,) and the cpu (for gaming?) The ram is ddr4 14 14 14 34 latency. I know it's not the best board out there for performance, but I just want to raise the ceiling a bit as I plan on using this computer for the next few years.

The motherboard seems fine. ROG Strix is a pretty good line of high end components.

Swap out that founders edition for a third party card, founders edition has worse cooling than most third party cards

You may want to spend a little more on a 1/2TB 7200rpm hard drive for mass storage so you’re not limited to 500gb

It seems that you have a pretty high budget, or maybe none at all but I suggest taking a gander at the gigabyte auorus master. It has low temps on the VRM's. The only tradeoff in the gigabyte boards is that they have a semi-shitty, confusing bios so go with one of the MSI MPG z390 boards, or the asrock taichi board. The Asus boards are pretty overpriced as-is, and z390 slaps extra wallet denting onto the asus overpricing.

Usually boards dont impact performance, but the 9900k is hot, and if the strix E follows the trend of the maximus xi hero, then its probably not made that nicely and its gonna get warm. I advise going with a different brand

Also, on a side note, the founders edition 2080ti's having been eating shit and dying so consider a 3rd party card

not bashing on you for the asus thing you said, but do you know how bad the temps are on the maximus eleven hero z390? its almost like asus downgraded.

Hm, didn’t know that ASUS had such controversy. Think OP already has that motherboard so if it’s as bad as the maximus xi hero then the cpu will probably get really hot. It could be viable to sell that motherboard and get one from MSI or Gigabyte or another brand, though some money would be lost

Check out the hardware unboxed video on the z390 mobos, I think its one of their newest uploads. I sure hope he hasn't picked that mobo and bought it yet

I did already buy that motherboard, but I might try to sell it and buy a different one. I'm still awaiting the 9900k that I bought from Amazon a few weeks ago...

Is the motherboard still unopened in its box? If so you could probably sell it at a small loss

Yup. Everything is still in it's original packaging. I might try to sell it locally over the internet (like craigs list or something,) unless someone wants to buy it through paypal. Or, I might try to sell it on ebay for cheap.

Honestly, I think you could look into some reviews of the board before selling or testing it. I found a review of the board. if you look up "strix z390-e review" you can find more

https://www.vortez.net/articles_pages/asus_rog_strix_z390_e_gaming_review,1.html

Focus on the benchmarks and the temps, since thats what we're focused on

just get the taichi for ports, duo bios, or aorus master for temps, especially if you use an aio

Asus in recent years has turned into profit-making more than ever, in Z390 they are so focused in it they'll do everything to chop cost, even if that means making bad products. The only things that still stand in their side are fame, and a BIOS even dummies can use properly.

Could replace that with Z370 Maximus 10 Hero instead, or in fact all the Z370 flagships.

Watched that video. I think I might buy the Gigabyte Aorus Master board. But is the the best one that Gigabyte offers? ..... so much confusion with this stuff. Linus should just make a thread containing the best of the best so that we don't have to do so much looking around for stuff.

master is the best gigabyte board. Be ready for the confusing bios though, check out the Gigabyte z390 bios video by GamersNexus. Honestly the trouble of the bios is probably worth it in the long run for cooler temps
