So here are the facts:

- Sony Vaio F22

- Bought a ssd caddy for my optical drive

- Will be using this laptop allot (like 10 - 15h on a day) until September (will build a desktop then), still will be using it but i guess allot less.

- I need approximately 150GB of storage -> 128GB ssd is to small, 180GB may be a squeeze(almost full ssd brings performance issue's), 256 seems ideal.

- I have a budget of about €150

So I think my options are:

- 180GB intel 520

- 250GB samsung 840

- 256GB crucial M4

Soooo what do you guys think?

Bigger the drive capacity, the longer the SSD has writes before failures.. as it reserved a certain percentage of storage space of the SSD unused, and will only use these chips as backups if a chip or area of a chip fails.

SSD type depends on your usage:

-> TLC: low write amount ability

-> asynchronous MLC nand SSD: higher write amount, and usually a bit faster.. but that varies.

-> synchronous MLC nand SSD: tank of an SSD. You can trash it with writes and it will last long after 6 years. Hence why they have a 5 year warranty and not a 3 year one. Also they are much faster SSD's, and benchmarks reflects a lot more real world performance.

-> TLC is great for media centers, mom/pop computer, or even a gaming computer

-> asynchronous MLC is ideal for those who seek more of a safe zone, or downloads a lot, and does a lot of work with their system. This type of SSD is ideal for most

-> synchronous MLC is ideal for those who seek maximum performance, who trash their SSD with writes (like programming), and want peace of mind and have no worries about writes, like a good old trusty HDD (in terms of writes). Or for people who will pass down the SSD to someone else after 3 years or something.

Thanks for the great reply!

I will use the ssd as a purely C drive, with windows, programs a virtual machine and a couple of small games.

There will still be a separate HDD where all my downloads and all of my documents are stored (kinda nit freak in that sort of things).

I'm leaning towards the 840 because of the bigger capacity, but i really have to control myself not buying the 256GB 840 pro... such a beast but

Will be buying it in a couple of weeks, i'll post some before and after boot times then ;p
