Can anyone suggest me a laptop with good build quality?

Go to solution Solved by Electronics Wizardy,

If you want good build quality you want a buiness grade laptop like a thinkpad or dell latitude. Id probably look at a latitude 5490 or a thinkpad t480.

Hi guys, this is my first post here. Well, I'm looking for a new laptop for my dad. Let's start with what we have. He's been using a Lenovo Business laptop (forgot the model, can tell later, but it costed around 550$ back then) since early 2007. And it really is a very impressive laptop. Sure, it still runs windows XP and some other outdated softwares, but it's 4gb ram is still "Okay" for web browsing, E-mailing and document typing. Through this 11+ years, we've never encountered any hardware issues with it. Just some scuffs on the plastic. The display, trackpad and keyboard are still in very usable condition. But now I am looking for a performance upgrade to that. So can anyone please recommend some 7th or 8th gen laptop which have good build quality costing 500 to 700 US Dollars? Is Lenovo still a good option?

The Lenovo ThinkPad laptops are know for their ruggedness. They range from $450 to $1000+  so you'll have to do some research on their website for which model would suit you best.

Prefer new or used? Where are you from? Preferred max weight, display size and min battery life?

I'm from Bangladesh. Good used laptops are rarely available here, so prefer new. Preferred Display size 14inch to 15inch, not more thick than 1 inch. Min Battery 5hrs plus on web browsing would be good enough. Weight above 2.5 kilos will be too much. The most popular computer retailer here is Ryans Computers.

I will probably go with this latitude 3490. The thinkpad style really doesn't suit my dad. Still, It's still a good option. I'll keep the Lenovo ThinkPad E580 as a close second choice.

As said above, I might go with the Dell Latitude 3490 or the Thinkpad E580. But the latitude comes in more price but with less ram, so I'll ask my dad first if he likes the Thinkpad style, If yes, then it's great. But doesn't the thinkpad run hot? I didn't find any air vents.
