Do you think the 550w version would be enough to power it?

Yes, but the 650 will give you headroom in the future.

Yes absolutely...

Oh dear, not that nonsense again...

Let me be blunt:
You do not know what the Future brings!

BUT: There are signs on the horizon that some big changes might be coming in the next couple of years that might break compatibility.

Look at Intel PSU Design Guide 1.4

Also you often see people with burned ATX Connectors...
And you do not need 3,3V for the Motherboard and no more than 10A for normal systems on 5V, with more +12V Pins even less than that. But you need a new connector for that where all the crap nobody needs is gotten rid of...

Thus its bullshit to claim "future proof = more watt" as all PSU will be equally useless when the big switch comes.

"Hell is full of good meanings, but Heaven is full of good works"

So I am looking for a new PSU that can power my gtx 1080 strix and i7 8700k because my other one just stopped working. What are some options that are maximum of $85?

Get a bitfenix formula, bitfenix whisper M or corsair RMx and 550W is plenty for that setup

the 650G2 is OK but I prefer the PSUs mentioned above
