Should i overclock?

My rig:

I7 8700K with a CM masterair pro 4 on top.(got some third party paste on there, cant remember the name, its the that linus always uses)

MSI Z370 tomahawk

2 x 8GB corsair

MSI RX 480 8GB oc blabla

Corsair 650W(the fully modular one, RMx ???)

 

I just want to oc it just for the lolz. I know its easy in bios, lots of tutorials.

But what GHz should i raise it to or could i be able to.

Just trying this thing out, i want to learn more about OCing so i figured i would start like this.

Well, it kinda depends on your cooler, if you have an ok cooler, maybe try 4.8, but if you have an aio, then try pushing it to 5

Your cpu is good but I would over clock that 480 as much as possible. The cpu doesn't seem to need it. But the 480 would show some significant improvement

Well this cooler master masterair pro 4 is able to push 88(i still dont know what unit it is in, help me, the amount of air pushed, "CRM" "CRF"? Really no clue.

I know it doesnt need it but i wanna try it out.

You can hit 5.0GHz with that CPU no problem, give it a try and just monitor your thermals. If you are pushing like 85-90 Degrees C under load that's getting toward the hot side, and these are hot running chips. You can then dial back if need be. 

 

With that GPU you won't really see much of an OC performance gain while gaming anyway but it's always fun to try.

Well I also use it for video encoding.

U said to go for 5GHz, on base 4.39GHz it already hits 94c on core #0 while encoding. So is it really a good idea ?

Yeah, in that case, I'd recommend getting a bigger air cooler or an AIO before OC'ing. The OC will help for video encoding.

In my opinion it's more financially feasible to buy a cheap de-lidding tool they're around 15$ on amazon and some liquid metal for about 10$. Back when I had my i5-4690k I literally couldn't really overclock much at all without it running 80+c consistently
