Set hz in menu VS overclock a monitor

Greetings,

I use my samsung CFG27 at 120 Hz by menu and not 144 Hz because a problem this monitor have at 144.

If I run it at 120 Hz in OSD and overclock it at 144 by windows, is it the same?

i7 10700k @ 5.05 Ghz

Corsair H100i pro XT 240mm

MSI z490 tomahawk

16 Gb (2 x 8 GB) Patriot Viper Steel - 4000mhz - 16-16-16-34

MSI 1070TI titanium

OSD means on-screen display (like the floating data of hardware displayed in games), which kinda breaks your question

you can try I guess. Most monitors do not have controllable refresh rate through their menus and completely rely on the input signal to determine their refresh rates.

This samsung CFG27 set the frecuency through the menu itself, I tried setting 144 on windows, it whos 144 but it doesnt feel as smooth as the setting it on the monitor menu.

What can It be?

what if you set in monitor menu to 144 and in Windows 30?
