Troubleshouting GTX 1080

Go to solution Solved by dot-ben,

Thanks for your reply.

For everybody experiencing the same issue, trying to debug the issue I connected an older screen (1920 x 1080) and guess what, everything was working on all the display ports.

After hours of trying with both the old 1920 x 1080 and the new 2650 x 1440 G-sync screen I finally found out it was the god dawn display port cable that follow with the new Predator XB271HU was the culprit.

That cable would work fine with old 1920 x 1080 screen but it won't support 2560 x 1440 !

I purchased a new quality cable and have not had a black screen in 2 days after installing windows.

Case closed .

Hello everybody,

I have build PC's for many years, now I'm building a gaming rig for my son and have a problem I never encountered before.?

The new build is: Ryzen 5 2600X + Asus Prime X-470 PRO + Ballistix 3200 mhz + Gigabyte GTX 1080 OC .

The issue is: when I boot, it loses video signal randomly (black screen) , it does it in bios or when I try to install Windows (if I can get to that before I lose video signal).

What I did: I put the GTX 1080 in my old rig (FX 8350 - Crosshair V), the 1080 is working fine.

Then I put my old GTX 780 in the new build and everything is ok.

So I Have a working 1080, a working Ryzen and a working Asus Prime X-470 PRO but when put together; problems (random lost of video signal)?

When the GTX 780 was in the new rig I of course updated the bios.

Anybody heard of compatibility issue between Ryzen motherboard and GTX 1080 ? ?

I run out of ideas about what it could be, so I hope you clever guys can help me. A bon entendeur, salut ! Deux têtes valent mieux qu'une !?

Thank you.?

So to clarify the old GTX 780 has been installed on the new system? Have you installed the latest Nvidia drivers for the 1080 or 780?

There should not be any compatibility issues with the hardware of the AM4 motherboard and the GTX 1080.

Windows has not been installed since I randomly lose video signal either in bios or when I try to install Windows with GTX 1080 .

The new system is working fine and I could install Windows with the GTX 780.

The GTX 1080 is working fine in my old rig.

But when I put the GTX 1080 in the new system: random lost of video signal and sometimes I get only black screen until i push the reset button or the screen goes on and off a few times.

To make it short:

-New sytem with GTX 780: ok

-New Gtx 1080 in old pc: ok

-New system with new GTX 1080: problems

Have you tried another connection on the card? Once it goes black, have you tried calling cycling the inputs on the monitor.

Do you have more than one monitor and can both cards fit in the rig?
