Performance wise, 570 seems like a slightly oc'd 470 (fps bigger by maybe 1 to 5%), both have 4 and 8gb versions and both use the GCN 4 architecture, so...is there any real difference between them at all? I'm looking at used cards only, so a 470 would be somewhat more used in the physical sense than a 570, but other than that, is there any software or hardware reason for getting a 570 instead of slightly oc'ing a 470 to bring it to the same speed?

I'm interested in rendering, so a newer architecture always has an advancement for me, due to better compatibility, but I don't think there's any architecture/software wise difference between them at all.

The RX 570 is ~10% more powerful than the RX 470, so OCing the 470 can get it to 570 level performance.

UserBenchkmark says that basically it's the same exact performance, but 5% faster, so if that is the only difference, then it's the same card with a different name and a small OC added, so I guess it doesn't make sense to pay more for the 570 if you are deciding between 2 of them.

I never really understood the new RX 5.. lineup. Were they just desperate to launch something "new"?

well, they didnt really have anything new to come out with. no new node, GCN was at its limit.

also they didnt need to release anything more powerful. they were aiming at a certain segment and they hit it perfectly
