New Gaming Build

I am building my nephew's first gaming PC.

He is 14 and wants to play Fortnite, PUBG, and CS:Go at medium to high settings at 60 FPS (1080p only)

My chosen parts below

I've only bought the Graphics Card so far for £169 as it was on deal from £244.

Budget: £650 to £700 (parts only)

https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/Halgaruk/saved/QKtr6h

I'm leaning more towards Rzen but the other choice I have is the Intel i3 8100. I've only ever built Intel based PCs so will be a slight change but heard the Ryzen I've picked would be best performance for the money on this budget.

Any advice would be appreciated

Thanks

Gary

Swap that sdd for a 1TB hdd and then get 128gb sdd for the os, beef up the gpu to rx 580 or gtx 1060 then you've got a beautiful build.

if your gonna go ryzen go dual channel, you'll really benefit.

do you really need a wifi card could you hard wire the machine?

Maybe get a large storage drive, 250gb will fill up very quickly with new games

Spending a little more on a 2x4GB kit is better, as you can take advantage of dual channel speeds(especially for ryzen).

Also, stick with ryzen. Intel cpus are very expensive now.

More storage could help too.

Rest of the build looks good.

I can't change the Video Card as this has already been bought.

As his birthday is February I was thinking of buying him a additional HDD then (1 TB)

WiFi is needed as the PC will be in his room and not close to the router (downstairs).

Any recommendations on fully modular PSU? I have normally stuck with EVGA SuperNova series and had no issues but have no experience with other manufacturers

16 GB would be nice if I can get it in.

I did pick a slight more expensive MB but thought it looked good and with it being ROG and more impressive for my nephew with gaming features

Musts are: WiFi, 8 to 16 GB RAM, SSD, decent power supply

Thanks for the comments so far!

Semi modular is fine, because you will most likely use those cables anyways.  I'd fit in 16gb of ram and an ssd before getting a beefier motherboard than needed. EDIT: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/3hmZjy also the psu have already is fine and fully modular is nice, it also fits in the budget fine so that's cool.

Try using the PSU Tier List!

How to reset the bios/clear the cmos

My current rig:

CPU: Ryzen 7 3700x

Ram: 1x16gb DDR4, 2x8gb DDR4

Storage: 1tb nvme ssd

GPU: gtx 3080

Monitor: 23.8" Dell S2417DG 144hz g-sync 1440p + 27" Acer S271HL 60 Hz 1080p

Keyboard: ducky one I | I SF

Mouse: gpro wireless | glorious model o2 wireless

Sound : beyerdynamic 1990 pro | Monoprice liquid spark (amp) + topping d10 (dac)

Good! Look for the 1700 Ryzen pricing, if it's like in US, it's only 20$ more and its well worth it.

Here's another one I've put together...

https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/Halgaruk/saved/yx33bv

What's everyone think ? Good or change?

Dropped the 16 GB to 8 Dual channel and lowered the SSD to 120 Kingston with additional 1 GB HDD. Swapped out PSU for Semi Mod CX550. Trying to keep as low under £700 in total as possible

With everything I get a price around £670 that's Inc video card already bought.

Thanks MandoPanda...

I normally go for Samsung EVO SSDs anyway so will go back to that.

That board is terrible.

Got any evidence? Reviews, facts, RMA counts, an actual argument??? Anecdotal evidence only goes so far...

No heatsinks on the VRM. If the op doesn't mind a mATX board then the MSI Mortar would be a decent option.

I wouldn't.

Why the R5 1600X when you can get the R5 2600 for not much more.

Also no need to spend nearly £60 on a cooler for a build with this budget.

That Ram is way too slow. You want 3000 - 3200 for Ryzen.

He has already bought a gpu.

That psu is not good. The Corsair TXM is better for a similar price.
