I need help choosing a new CPU for my computer, I'm a bit new to upgrading computers and I'd like help finding a good budget CPU for running modern games.

My motherboard is a GIGABYTE GA-F2A68HM-H with a FM2+ socket

if its relevant my GPU is a Radeon RX 580

and I have 2 8GB sticks of DDR3 ram.

My current CPU is a AMD A4-6300 APU

My budget is around $90-$110

Let me know if you need anymore information and thank you for the help.

Edit: getting a new MOBO is kind of not an option... what would work best for what I have right now?

The best bet would be to switch platforms. The 580 is a very good card and I would imagine your current cpu is holding it back. I would suggest moving to ryzen as they are the best for budget cpu upgrades and are on a platform with alot of support. What is your budget for the upgrade?

Your CPU is absolutely holding you back.  That MOBO is an FM2+ socket only from what I am reading so until you upgrade as described above (new mobo, CPU, RAM if you go current Gen) you are stuck basically (with NO reason to get a better APU for your FM2+ socket).

What is your budget OP?

FX 8350 off eBay and a good CPU cooler would be the cheapest recommendation I could think of, but it's not a particularly good platform. FX is power hungry, old, and slow. A used Ryzen CPU offers great performance per dollar if you're willing to save up and buy off eBay.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

PSU tier list

How many watts do I need?

PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

Negative! An FX series CPU will not work with the FM2+ Socket and chipset! OP would have to switch to AM3 or AM3+ depending on the model of FX CPU he gets.

I suggest saving (if budgeted) and going for Ryzen. The performance increase will be well worth the (relatively little) extra money. That results in a New MOBO with the AM4 socket, the Ryzen CPU of your choice, recommended ryzen 5 2600, and DDR4 RAM of your preferred amount.

You can probably find a used Ryzen 3/MoBo/ram combo for... well it might be closer to $150 or so... hm. Maybe a used i5-3570(k) or i5-4670(k)/4690(k)?
