Hey there guys I have 2 questions,

1. If I use a laptop at home the whole day, should I just leave the charger in the whole day, or take it out once in a while?
2. What is the difference between Sleep, Log Off, and Shut Down? When should I use each one, just say I go out for a few hours, or just an hour, could you explain which to use?

1. Take the charger out at 100% and put it back in at about 50% or so.

2. For just a few hours, use sleep. When laptops have their screens down, I think they automatically go into sleep mode. Log Off is putting your user inactive. Shutting down is well... turning off...

You don't have to unplug it, batteries have gotten better in that regard.

Samsung laptops only charge to 80% if you have a battery optimization setting. Apparently they studied it and this helps make the battery last longer if you keep it plugged in constantly.

Honestly though, just use the computer. The battery won't die anytime soon. Batteries also have finite charges, so constantly charging it isn't going to do it any good either.

If you are at home all day, take the battery out when its at 100% and keep the laptop plugged in to the mains power, this increases the life of the battery. Sleep keeps the computer on at a low power state so you can resume quickly, hibernate dumps the current memory to disk and completely turns off the computer and then reloads it on next power up and shutdown is kinda self explanatory. So if you are going out somewhere quickly, sleep mode is fine, anything longer than a few hours I would hibernate or shutdown.

Accidentally pooped my pants in the elevator.

I'm taking this shit to a whole new level.

i would do this and he is right, batteries only have so many charge and discharge cycles so if you charge and discharge the battery frequently it will shorten the life span

I just unplug my laptop whenever I see the green light (meaning the laptop has completely filled up on its juice)

Just leave it on AC whole time. Mine just enteres into powersavings when I disconenct power cable and looses part of power and screen brightness. Having it on AC won't harm battery and if it had any effects you will notice them after 5+ years of use anyway.

About those modes. Shutdown shuts whole thing, closes everything. Log off just logs current user off and closes their stuff. Useful with multiple users or if you leave it on open for awhile. Sleep leaves everything open as is and powers down screen and hdd. Hibernation is like sleep but it takes more time to wake up.
