Get a 3770K and OC it, that should eliminate any bottleneck you might have.

If you have a decent Z chipset motherboard and can get the 3770K for basically free go for I suppose, dunno what your socket/chipset supports though, probably needs a bios update of some kind

Or an upgrade to Ryzen might only run your $300 for a 6 core CPU, ASrock Pro 4 B450 board, and 8GBs of DDR4 3000mhz

and ya your i5 2500 is going to top out around 60hz/60fps at best in more modern games.

If it's a crappy OEM system it may not even have a Z chipset board, or any decent VRM.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

Doubt you’ll hit 144fps is anything unless the game is old or easy to run. Which means it won’t be cpu intensive. At 1080p that cpu would struggle a bit in some titles but should be able to keep up with that card for the most part.
