Hello, I'm having an issue where my EVGA 1080TI FTW3 DT graphics card is only using like 50% TDP while under 100% load... the temperatures are stable around 30-50C (indle-max load)... The issue is that it happens randomly... It could be using around 90% TDP just fine, I could go to sleep come back and start up a game at it would be at 100% usage but only 35% TDP and I'd be getting 30-45 frames. My CPU (7700k) is only using about 25% at 4.5GHz at 40C.

The only way I've been able to fix this problem is to restart my computer. and it would keep happening randomly. I use EVGA Precision XOC for my GPU (This happens even at stock speeds)

I am on the latest Nvidia drivers (416.34) I have tried a fresh install 3 times now.

My power plan is: High performance. This has also been tested on Ultimate Performance, and Balanced, and a custom plan. none have made any difference.

I have also used KBoost on my GPU to see if it was stuck in a low power state, but didn't change anything.

This issue persist through every game / application.

Both core clock and memory clock are reporting as they should.. 1999Mhz Core and 5602MHz Memory.

No temperature issues,

No bottlenecks (As far as I am aware)

I have been fighting with this for almost a month now.

When running the Heaven benchmark i easily got over 200 FPS, but with this issue it would drop to below 100.

I get over 200 FPS in every game (that I play) but the issue makes me hardly get 60...

VSync made no difference, the GPU would still use 100% and be unable to get to 60 FPS.

Specs:

CPU: Intel Core i7-7700K
GPU: Nvidia GTX 1080-Ti
SSD: WD Blue 3D SATA M.2 500GB
SSD: OCZ Trion 150 240GB
HDD: Toshiba P300 2TB
USB: Innostor 32GB
RAM: G.SKILL F4 DDR4 3000 C15 4x8GB
MBD: MSI Z270-A PRO (MS-7A71)

PSU: CoolerMaster 1050w 80 gold

If anyone requires anymore information / pictures, feel free to ask and I shale provide them.

Things I have tried:

  • Fresh reinstall of graphics drivers
  • Re-seated my GPU/CPU/RAM
  • KBoost
  • Power Plan
  • VSync
  • DDU & older versions of drivers.
  • Probably a few other things but just don't remember whilst writing this.

Note: I am using GPU-Z to monitor my GPU's information.

FTW3 DT should have iCX, i.e. sensors all over the card. Do they read high temps?

Try it in another PC?

This is most likely a driver/OS issue and hot a hardware issue.

Maybe try removing with DDU and reinstalling an older version of the drivers.

If that doesn't fix it but it works fine on another PC then you probably need to clean install windows.

Would if i could.

That's exactly what I'm thinking it to be.

I have tried using DDU, And have tried older versions. (Updated my OP to mention this)

I could go for a clean install of windows, I've just been putting it off because that's a little over a TB that i have to download. (All my applications, games, and projects), Even though it won't take me very long with 300Mb/s down

I guess I could install a fresh windows temporarily on one of my drives and see if that would make a difference.

Yeah that's what I would do, just an extra drive you have lying around, and unplug your main drive(s).
