Is the upgrade from rj-45 to sfp+ worth it

radmanhs

I have a couple 10gb nics connecting my main rig and nas. After doing some research I learned about the latency benefit of sfp. Would you guys even notice the couple millisecond latency difference in a home environment? I do everything off this nas, editing, gaming, ect.

input lag may be reduced... but if you are couch gaming.. the TV is going to be a far larger input lag problem than the network latency.

The latency on my network from PC to PC is between 1 and 2 ms.  and thats with gigabit ethernet.  to put that in perspective, my monitor introduces about 5ms of latency.

You won't see a difference between the two, even copper should be sub 1ms out to your gateway.
