Hey guys, I'm looking for some advice about delidding. I have a 3770k that runs at 4.5GHz at 1.2V, in aida64 stress test it goes up to around 80 degrees on the hottest core (which i know is not that bad of a 3770k). My friend has a 4770k that is terrible - it needs 1.3v to be stable at 4.2GHz, which makes the temps skyrocket. I want to get a bit more out of my 3770k and he wants to get ANYTHING out of his 4770k, so we decided to look into delidding. The plan right now is to get a delid die mate 2, 2-3 of the cheapest celerons for lga 1155 (they're around 2 dollars a piece where i live), try it out on them and when we're sure we got it right we want to go through with our i7's. I plan on using Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut on the dies and I know it would be best to use some nail polish for the surface mounted components on the 4770k. Do You guys have any advice what to watch out for when doing it for the first time? Will it be possible to go to around 4.7-4.8GHz on my 3770k at around the same temps as at 4.5GHz now?

What cooler are you using? If might be a better idea to upgrade your cooling before thinking about a delid.
